Dr. Mohammad Gonaranao Pangcat Mapandi Sr., the President/Khalifatul Markhaz, the founder of Mapandi Memorial Medical and Educational Center Incorporated, was born on September 9, 1943 at Saduc, Marawi City, a son of Sultan Mapandi Danday Batugan and Hadja Moomina Pangcat of Saguiaran Lanao del Sur. He received his Elementary Education at Batangan Saguiaran Elementary School, his secondary at Lanao School of Arts and Trade, his degree in Doctor of Medicine from Far Eastern University, Manila in 1973, his master’s degree in Public Administration from Mindanao State University-Main Campus in 1984. He was happily married on September 21, 1969 to Ms. Bolawan Untao, a teacher in profession and a daughter of H.Noor Untao Ibra and H.Salam Calamata of Saduc Marawi City. They were blessed with five healthy and brilliant children namely; Moh’d. Gonaranao Jr., Sultan Khadaffi, Faizal, Farhana and Faiz who are all professionals. After his graduation in Doctor’s degree, he took the board exam and passed it. He began his professional career in 1974 as a City Health Officer-Marawi City. With the strong determination of the couple and with their vision to help their constituents, they decided and started to build a Clinica Mapandi on November 11, 1973 at Raya Saduc, Marawi City with P720 on hand. Dr. Mapandi was known throughout Marawi City and its neighboring provinces for his excellence and competitive personalized services, the response of the public was spontaneous. The couple was encouraged because of the large demand and patronage by the people and that two years after, they expanded and transferred along Marcos Boulevard corner Lilod Saduc, Marawi City in a two thousand square meters lot and renamed Mapandi Memorial Hospital on March 30, 1975, a duly licensed medical institution. The Founder continued to struggle with his mission and vision, but through tears and perspiration, the Mapandi Memorial Medical and Educational Center Incorporated was established with four independent divisions: the Mapandi Memorial Hospital in 1975, the Mapandi Memorial College in 1978, the Mapandi Management System in 1982 and the Mapandi Research and Islamic Foundation in 1987. Dr. Mapandi, a humble, kind and a man of action with precise vision, the man behind the wheel of MMMECI that propelled the Center to the heights of excellence and global competitiveness. He believed in the saying: “There is nothing lasting in this world except institution and there is no institution without people.” This adage earned him the admiration of the personnel and administrative staff. His policy of equity and transparency is the hallmark of his administration. He died on December 6, 2002 at the age of 59. Indeed, the legacy left by Dr. Mapandi is truly a center of excellence and has paved the way to the future of all Muslims with the right knowledge, skills and wisdom preparing them to face tomorrow confidently and successfully. |
